Making flax pellets

Attention: Only wood shives can be turned into pellets; fibres block the machine

I ran this test of making flax pellets from flax shives with my father, who has a pellet machine.

“How to”: Wet the shives with some water and let them rest for a bit. Rather start with too moist shives than with too dry ones as the dry shives immediately block the matrix and it’s a lot of handwork to free all the holes of dried up flax pellet dust. Ideally: let the moist shives pass through the machine 2-3 times and frequently check the remaining moist with a meter. If there’s around 40% residual moisture in the mix, let it go through the machine one last time. The pellets should be forming well.
